DICE has revealed it has backtracked on the recent Battlefield V update, which implemented a number of controversial time-to-kill changes to the World War II shooter.

The idea behind the patch was to make things a little easier newcomers, although longtime players weren't too happy with the changes made. Initially, DICE rolled out a 'Core' playlist for Conquest mode to appease veteran players, and later pledged to release additional playlists featuring the original TTK values.

However, after taking feedback into account and reviewing internal statistical data, DICE ultimately decided to revert back to the pre-patch version of Battlefield V.

'Clearly we didn't get it right,' said DICE. 'Veteran players didn't ask for the change, but as game developers, we took it upon ourselves to make those changes based on extensive data and deliberation. It truthfully wasn't an easy decision for us.'

The studio added that it will continue to 'improve the experience' for newcomers and veterans alike going forward.

Battlefield V was released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 20.
