EA studio DICE is currently hiring for next-gen development, according to a job listing – discovered by Gamespot.
The Battlefield studio is looking for a senior software engineer to work on its Frostbite engine (EA’s current engine of choice). Duties might include “keeping track of performance, memory and optimising for current and next-gen”.
Frostbite started out as the engine created by DICE for Bad Company, but has since evolved into an engine used to power not only Battlefield 2 but also Need for Speed: The Run. Future titles slated to use Frostbite 2 include Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Command and Conquer: Generals 2.
DICE joins Rockstar, Infinity Ward, Remedy, and others in recruiting for next-gen development. It’s widely thought that new consoles from Microsoft and Sony will release in 2013, while the Wii U is set to arrive this Christmas.
It’s not hugely surprising that DICE is hiring for next-gen, given that its engine is likely to power many of EA’s projects in the years to come.
