Battlefield 6 is off to a surprisingly amazing start with EA pushing back against predicted $80 prices, Battlefield Studios refusing to capitalise on dumb crossover skins, and the arrival of a Halo-like Forge mode in the form of the massively expanded Battlefield Portal.
While Battlefield 6 looks to be fantastic—and we had fun playing it last week—the game does have some annoyances that players have noticed. Certain effects, such as scope glint and sniper trails, have annoyed players due to their prominence within the multiplayer game, but aspects such as this will change before and after launch.
In a response on Twitter to the backlash of scope glint in Battlefield 6, principal game designer Florian Le Bihan, explained that the large sniper glares in the game will be changed over time.
“It’ll get toned down in scale a bit but it’s here to stay,” the game designer told fans online.
Speaking to VideoGamer at the Battlefield 6 event in London, England, UX director Alan Pimm confirmed that multiple cosmetic features that are easy to change will remain, but will be fine-tuned and optimised as more players use them.
One of these features is the powerful sniper trails that follow long-range bullets, allowing players to more easily parse where long-range fire is coming from. For the long-term success of Battlefield 6, Pimm admits listening to player feedback is integral, but some changes may take time and some features will remain if the team believes them to be crucial.
“It depends on how easy something is to change, but [also] how much we believe it’s something that everybody wants,” Pimm explained. “So, something like sniper trails, they may be big, they may last longer, they [may shrink].”
“All we can kind of do is take this feedback and balance it out and go, ‘okay, so with the resources that we’ve got in the time we’ve got, what’s the thing we think is going to give back most to the community?”
Pimm explained that the biggest thing to focus on is what’s causing the most “annoyance”, something that Apex Legends’ design director Evan Nikolich explained to us recently. Whatever is the biggest issue will always take the most resources, but smaller issues like sniper glint and trails will certainly be addressed as well.
