DICE is reportedly prototyping a Battle Royale mode for upcoming shooter Battlefield 5, but if it does end up being included it won't be at the expense of a meat-and-potatoes single-player campaign.

Publisher Electronic Arts confirmed the news during its recent earnings call (via resetera), where it announced the game will feature a dedicated campaign mode. This probably isn't all that surprising, but it's worth noting that rival shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is apparently not going to include a traditional single-player mode at all, which is a pretty big thing to be fair.

Battlefield's campaigns have always been a bit rubbish up until 2016's Battlefield 1, which injected some new life into the proceedings by having players hop between different protagonists in bite-sized narrative-driven episodes. Hopefully, DICE will see fit to follow that same template for Battlefield 5.

EA also revealed that the sequel will feature multiplayer, but that's stating the obvious at this point (like Mario is better than Sonic and Peter Gabriel was the superior frontman for Genesis, that kind of obvious).

Battlefield 5 will be released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One later this year, with more info expected to drop at E3 next month.
