UPDATE: EA has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that the text is “a placeholder”. Formats for the title are still to be officially confirmed.

ORIGINAL: A string of text included within the source code of Battlefield 4’s official website appears to have confirmed formats for DICE’s upcoming first-person shooter – but there’s no mention of next-gen platforms or Wii U.

Instead, the site only references a release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

“Find the latest news, videos, and trailers for Battlefield 4, EA and DICE’s award-winning first-person-shooter available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC,” reads a line of code for the website’s description.

Of course, it’s possible – and indeed, fairly likely – that the line could be placeholder text in preparation for the game’s formal reveal next week.

And considering the game’s launch timing, which is speculated to be around October/November this year, and Frostbite 2’s next-gen capabilities, it would be odd for the title not to see a release on next-gen consoles.

EA launched Battlefield 4’s website last night, confirming a gameplay reveal next Wednesday, March 27.

A six-second teaser of the game’s upcoming trailer was also released earlier in the week.

VideoGamer.com has contacted EA for comment.
