Battlefield 4 will release on Wii U, an online report has claimed.

According to a “source from EA” speaking to Wii U Daily, DICE had been developing a Wii U version of Battlefield 3 in conjunction with a team at EA Canada, which was subsequently cancelled following a “feud regarding Origin’s integration on the Wii U”.

The report claims that the disagreement led to DICE’s Wii U team being merged with the Battlefield 4 team, which is “now working on the Battlefield 4 Wii U version concurrently with other editions”.

According to the source, the Wii U version will be a “straight port” with touchscreen controls.

Similar touchscreen controls will also be available on the Xbox 360 version via SmartGlass, the report claims.

Battlefield 4 was announced last month following a leak on EA’s Origin service. A release date and confirmed platforms for the game have yet to be announced.

A multiplayer beta will be playable on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, however, suggesting it’ll launch on current-gen platforms. The game is also due to launch during FY14. VideoGamer.com speculated that this could mean an October 2013 release for Battlefield 4.

“It’s unknown whether the team is also working on next gen systems,” the report claims.
