Battlefield 3 launches in the UK today, but EA and DICE are still working around the clock to battle connectivity problems affecting the anticipated shooter.
Issues were reported last night across each of the game’s three platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The anticipated shooter has been blighted by connectivity issues since its launch in the US on Tuesday.
Origin, EA’s digital platform for the PC, was also suffering yesterday from severe problems as users were blocked from even activating the game on the platform. This has now been resolved.
Battlefield 3’s online services are currently down for maintenance, and should return at the end of the hour: “We are going to perform maintenance to improve stability for all platforms on our servers. Therefore, online connectivity will be down from 8:00 to 9:00 UTC,” said the Battlefield 3 Twitter account.
“Thank you for your patience,” added the support account.
VideoGamer.com awarded the game an 8/10 in its Battlefield 3 review, but almost solely because of the multiplayer component. “The multiplayer mode is nothing short of essential, but at the same time it’s hard not to be sorely disappointed by everything else on show.”
This is nothing new for EA, as the publisher has a pretty extensive record of messing up launches with dodgy servers. Battlefield: Bad Company 2, anyone? If the past is any indication these problems should all be fixed by the end of next week, but I can’t think of many things more frustrating than rushing out to buy a multiplayer-focused game on launch day and coming back to find you can’t even connect to the online servers.
