EA is looking to spend between $45 and $50 million dollars on Battlefield 3’s marketing campaign later in the year, according to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter’s latest research note.

In April, EA boss John Riccitiello said “there will be a couple of hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head.” Does that mean Pachter expects Activision to sink $150 million dollars into Modern Warfare 3’s marketing campaign?

Earlier this week Pachter said he expects some hardcore Call of Duty players to defect to Battlefield 3 because of a negative response to Call of Duty: Elite.

Coincidentally, the Call of Duty: Elite beta begins today.

Battlefield 3 has already seen a lavish television debut, showcasing its trailer during the half-time advertisement break of the Manchester United and Manchester City FA Cup semi-final, which took place on Saturday April 16.

Battlefield 3 will be released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on October 28. Modern Warfare 3 launches for the same platforms on November 8.
