Battlefield 3 isn’t going to ship with modding tools on the PC.
Speaking to German magazine Gamestar, EA Senior Vice President Patrick Söderlund confirmed that DICE isn’t currently looking to implement mod support. “As of now, we are not going to make any modding tools.”
It’s all down to the fact Frostbite 2.0 is too advanced for fans to work with, apparently. “If you look at the Frostbite engine, and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game, because of the nature of the set up of levels, the destruction and all those things. It’s quite tricky.”
“We think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod,” added Söderlund.
This week DICE also confirmed that infantry animations in Battlefield 3’s multiplayer will not be as ‘Hollywood’ as in the single-player game.
The Swedish developer has also been sharing its Battlefield knowledge for BioWare to use in Mass Effect 3.
Battlefield 3 will be released for 360, PS3, and PC on October 28.
I’m completely sure chopping out the ability for users to make their own custom levels has absolutely nothing to do with the desire to sell premium map packs.
