Battlefield 3 continues to prove that there is room at the top for more than one military FPS with sales now standing at eight million copies, EA CFO Eric Brown announced overnight during the Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco.

The visually stunning FPS racked up first week sales of five million copies and shipped twice that figure. Since then, Brown said the game has gone on to shift a further three million copies, with the shipped figure rising to twelve million.

Brown didn’t state how the sales were split across platforms.

The release of Battlefield 3 expansion pack, Back to Karkand, is fast approaching, and EA is building up the anticipation with a new gameplay clip focussing on the re-imagining of Gulf of Oman.

Back to Karkand will be released in December priced £11.99/1200 MS Points, but will be offered for free if you pre-ordered the Battlefield 3: Limited Edition. PlayStation 3 players will have exclusive one week early access to Back to Karkand.
