EA has a pretty large advertising campaign planned for its military shooter Battlefield 3 and hopes the game’s launch weeks ahead of Modern Warfare 3 will give its game the advantage.
“We have a pretty extensive campaign planned for Battlefield 3,” said EA CFO Eric Brown at Citi 2011 Tech Conference on Wednesday. “We have the advantage of a two-and-a-half week early launch window versus our competitor [Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3], and we intend to use that.”
In the UK Battlefield 3 hits stores on October 28, followed less than two weeks later by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8.
No doubt the release date advantage will benefit Battlefield 3 – coming out before Modern Warfare 3 should attract those desperate for a new FPS hit – but it’s difficult to see the game eating into the sales of Modern Warfare 3.
