EA and BioWare have announced that the Mass Effect 3 demo will be released in January 2012.

Both single and multiplayer modes will be available. The exact date the demo will be released is yet to be confirmed, as is the duration of the ‘early access’ multiplayer component.

Owners of Battlefield 3 – more specifically, Battlefield 3’s online pass – will be granted access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect demo via their EA Account.

BioWare will also announce another way for players to access the multiplayer side of the demo in either late November or early December.

There will also be a tool posted on masseffect.com to allow people to check whether their account has been granted this elusive early access.

The single-player part of the demo will be available to all players.

Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode is a four-player co-op mode that runs independently of the single-player campaign. BioWare says it is completely optional, though it will have a “direct impact” on Shepard’s story.

“It is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone,” says BioWare.

Mass Effect 3 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on March 9 2012.
