Battlefield 3’s core gameplay designer Alan Kertz has announced his departure from the game’s development team.
“Moving on from BF3, leaving the gameplay in the very capable hands of @gustavhalling and @stormonster” Tweeted Kertz.
With this comment leading some to believe he was also leaving DICE, Kertz quickly added: “And no, I’m not leaving DICE. Just departing from the team that’s still diligently working on BF3.”
Kertz hit the headlines in February 2011, when during a Twitter Q&A he said: “You don’t kill CoD by trying to be CoD. You kill CoD by making a better shooter.”
So what is Kertz moving on to now? Staying at DICE means it’s entirely possible he’s now hard at work on Battlefield 4, with production on the sequel sure to be ramping up if an autumn 2013 release is to be met. Either that or DICE is working on something less expected, like say Mirror’s Edge 2.
