Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best interpretations of Dungeons and Dragons ever made, leading to a huge crossover in fans of both the tabletop game and the video game spin-off.
In celebration of Larian’s brilliant RPG adaptation, Baldur’s Gate 3 character Astarion has officially been added to the newest addition of the Dungeons and Dragons’ Monster Manual, but this isn’t the only time the character has popped up.
Astarion keeps turning up in D&D
Spotted by fans in the Baldur’s Gate 3 community, Astarion has been spotted within the latest release of the D&D Monster Manual.
Within the new book, one page has a quote from a character known as “Astarion, Vampire Spawn”. As expected, the quote is very much something the character would say: “Darling, you are simply delicious.”
However, this isn’t the only time Astarion has jumped from Baldur’s Gate 3 into other Dungeons and Dragons content. In fact, the lovable vampire even turned up in last year’s official 2024 Dungeons and Dragons Player Manual, albeit there he was burning in a truly haunting scene of dread.
“I added him on my own from the sketch of that image, and the art directors thought it was fine to leave him there as a small easter egg for those who notice,” said artist David Astruga (thanks, GamesRadar). “It doesn’t have any further relevance, but it’s good to remember that Astarion is a Wizards character, so he could obviously appear here or there.”
With the extreme popularity of BG3, it seems that the game’s lovable cast of characters will continue to pop up in more D&D content in the future. Although it’s just a Astarion for now, perhaps we could see best girl Shadowheart make an appearance sometime in the future.
