The latest patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 appears to have made it harder for players to experience custom campaigns. Following the release of cracked mod tools, modders to the RPG have discovered new restrictions on the RPG.

Baldur’s Gate 3 custom campaign restrictions

While modders are working on custom levels for Baldur’s Gate 3, it seems the creation of entirely new campaigns may be more difficult than many assumed. With specific questing and scripting tools locked out of the game’s level editor and the removal of a campaign selection tool, modders aren’t sure how far they can go with their creations.

“As of right now we still don’t know if it’s even possible to make new quests and advanced scripting with the unlocked tools as several required files are still missing,” a modder said on Reddit. “First off, we need to even find out if that’s possible. Larian also didn’t help us much with this since in previous versions of BG3 we still had a “campaign” selection tool that could theoretically be used for modded campaigns but that was removed in Update 7.”

Nevertheless, modders are looking at ways of creating complete campaigns in Baldur’s Gate 3. While nothing is concrete, modders are looking for ways to re-introduce the old campaign selection tool to players for when custom campaigns do happen.

Custom campaigns are inevitable

While BG3 doesn’t currently support custom campaigns, fans will always find a way to do so. After the massive success of fan-made expansions like Fallout London, there’s no doubt that a game as beloved as Baldur’s Gate 3 will see similar projects in the future.

With such deep gameplay systems and a fantastic style, Larian’s RPG will undoubtedly be supported by fans for decades to come. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll have an endless number of awesome quests to play through, they just won’t be made by Larian’s amazing writers.
