Feeling lonely? There’s a Baldur’s Gate 3 mod for that now. Without much mucking about, it’s titled ‘Replayable Romance Scenes,’ and lets players cast spells at target characters who will then act out a smooch – and then some.
Cerberry and Moxi are the two mod makers responsible for its creation. It appears that the latter has slightly more experience creating sultry mods for Baldur’s Gate 3, having previously developed extensions to Gale and Astarion’s romantic options.
In the space of just a week, almost 9,000 people have downloaded the mod. With it, players can re-enact Asarion’s Act 1 romance scene, Minthara’s, Astarion’s Act 3 post-ascension scene, and Wyll’s dance scene. The notes for the mod also add that they can be re-enacted from different locations. As expected, this can result in a few glitches as the characters will be in atypical areas.
One of my favourite examples of the mod was made by the user ‘tinabalducci’, who uploaded a screengrab of Elminster mounting a ghoulish character. It was less heart-warming than some of the others, but who am I to cast my opinion on who others love? At least the uploader has a sense of concern; “pretty sure im (sic) going to hell for this,” they wrote.
Although, to many, this level of beyond ordinary romance is nothing new. Astarion’s voice actor, Neil Newbon, had recently been streaming the game and eventually had the opportunity to bang the Mindflayer Emperor. The tentacle action even made Newbon spit his drink back out, but we know all too well not to make a fuss about fluids.
Another mod, this one by Magnetuning, adds in an entirely new romance scene for Wyll entirely. In the early access build of the game the character has a cuddle animation. Yet in the full release, after he breaks his pact with Mizora, nothing happens despite his pangs of guilt. However, the new mod allows you to give him a much needed cuddle after this. You will then take Wyll in your lap and comfort him, and it’s genuinely one of the most tender and intimate scenes I’ve ever seen in a video game.
The developer said “it was a labor of love, and took months of reverse engineering the BG3 dialog system to accomplish. I’d genuinely move mountains for Wyll Ravengard and I’m not kidding.”
