While Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most freeform RPGs ever made, there are limitations to what players can do. After a year of playing through the game, players wish they could properly wipe out the Goddess of Darkness, Shar, for good.

Baldur’s Gate versus Shar

In a recent Reddit thread complaining about the tediousness of Shar’s storyline, Baldur’s Gate 3 players expressed a desire to properly fight the Goddess.

Unfortunately, Baldur’s Gate 3 only allows players to insult Shar within the game. However, players wish to have a way to weaken or fight the Goddess to stop her from exploiting others.

“I wish you could really stick it to Shar,” one player said. “The worst you can do is say ‘you’re no god, you’re a monster’ to which she doesn’t care at all.“

“F**k Shar. All my homies hate Shar,” said another. “Freeing Shadowheart from her clutches is one of the most satisfying portions of the game. I like seeing my girl happy.”

The worst you can do

Since Shar feeds off loss and misery, you can still win against her even if you’re not fighting her. As players explain, “The best you can do is to spread life and enrich the world. She hates seeing new things show up and people having fun.”

“The ultimate middle finger to Shar is just to let Shadowheart save her parents and just live her life,” said another. “Seeing Shadowheart spiting the goddess of Loss by gaining back her family is my ideal ending for her.”

While it may not be as cinematic as a huge boss fight against the emo goddess, it’s a much better-written ending for Shadowheart’s story. Sure, Shar continuing to wreak havoc across the world of The Forgotten Realms is upsetting, but at least the game’s best companion is safe from her clutches.
