Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has sold almost six million units to consumers, EA revealed during an earnings call last night.

“On the spring, we released Battlefield: Bad Company 2, with a Metacritic index of 89,” said COO John Schappert. “Today, Bad Company 2 is sold through almost 6 million units, more than double the sales of the original.”

He added: “Congratulations to the team at our DICE Studio in Stockholm for turning Battlefield: Bad Company into a new stand-alone franchise for EA.”

EA will be looking at the huge increase in sales achieved by Bad Company 2 over the first game as an indicator of what is possible with future instalments in the Medal of Honor franchise.

Not only that, but the success of Bad Company and Medal of Honor, plus EA Partners releases Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm, gives the publisher a diverse and hugely enviable line-up of first-person shooters. Despite its dominance in the segment, Activision only has Call of Duty.
