ASTRO Gaming has revealed a “new and improved” 2013 edition of its award-winning ASTRO A40 Gaming Headset and A40 MixAmp Pro.
The 7.1 headset promises to be the “best sounding ASTRO headset ever”, and features “re-tuned drivers and enclosures with improved low-end response and less distortion” to make them the “most accurate” gaming headset ever released by the company.
The new A40 also features an improved ‘Quick Disconnect Cabling System’, which allows for easier cable switching when changing cable lengths and types.
In addition to improved sound quality, the A40 includes support for 7.1 Dolby Digital and features a removable microphone and customisable speaker tags.
The headset is compatible with Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Mac and ‘mobile platforms’.
The 2013 Edition ASTRO MixAmp Pro, meanwhile, introduces a range of new features over the previous model, including a ‘Stream Out’ jack that allows game audio and voice chat to be output directly to a live stream, and a “more reliable” 3.5mm optical port.
The previous MixAmp used a TOSlink optical port.
In addition, the new MixAmp will let users create and share custom audio profiles via its website. That feature is said to be coming ‘soon’.
A UK price and release date for the headset and MixAmp has yet to be announced by ASTRO – but don’t expect them to come cheap.
A bundled system containing both the 2013 Edition ASTRO A40 Gaming Headset and 2013 Edition ASTRO MixAmp Pro costs $249.99 in the US.
