Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew will not be available to purchase on Steam in the UK, Ubisoft has confirmed. Instead, PC players looking to pick up a digital copy will have to head to Uplay or an independent digital retailer.

In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com this morning, Ubisoft said:

“We’ve been in discussions with Valve about ACU, Far Cry 4 and The Crew, but for the time being the games are not available via Steam in the UK.

“In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase either of these games digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors. ACU, Far Cry 4 and The Crew are available on Steam in other regions outside the UK.”

What isn’t clear, however, is why Ubisoft has chosen not to make the games available on Steam. Previous games in the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series have each been available to purchase on Steam, and all three games are reportedly listed on the North American store.

PCGamesN, who first reported the news last night, suspects that the issue may be linked to each game’s pricing. Assassin’s Creed Unity currently costs £49.99 from Uplay and other digital retailers, including GreenManGaming and GamersGate – significantly higher than most new releases on Steam.

UPDATE: User reports state that the games have now been removed from the North American, German and Brazilian Steam stores, suggesting this could be a global issue.
