Assassin’s Creed Pirates, a mobile seafaring spin-off from the core Assassin’s Creed series, is due to release on smartphones and tablets this autumn, Ubisoft has announced.

Targeted at high-end smartphones and tablets, Assassin’s Creed Pirates promises to deliver “a new visual standard on mobile” with “groundbreaking 3D visuals” setting the scene for a naval adventure that lets players live out the life of a pirate.

Travelling across the high seas, players will be tasked with managing their crew, upgrading their ship and engaging in naval battles to become the most feared pirate on the water.

The story follows the tale of seafarer Alonzo Batilla, a pirate who crosses paths with the Templars and Assassins, and who will meet infamous pirates Blackbeard, Bellamy and Hornigold on his quest across the Caribbean.

Plenty of locations are said to be included, too, including paradise island and volcanic shores set across a huge map, with a day and night cycle and changing weather conditions that impact gameplay.

A price for Assassin’s Creed Pirates has yet to be announced, and it isn’t yet clear whether the game will directly tie in with upcoming HD release Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
