The lead writer for the Assassin’s Creed games, Darby McDevitt, has revealed that 85 per cent of the overarching plot for the series is ‘already mapped out’.
“We have about – to give it a rough estimate – 85 per cent of the Assassin’s Creed lore mapped out, but new things always happen along the way,” McDevitt said in the latest issue of Xbox 360 World (via CVG). “If a writer comes up with a cool new story which sits deep within the narrative, this might end up changing things. But we do have things planned out.
“Altair’s complete story arc has been mapped out for two years, and Ezio’s story in Revelations was being conceived and planned when the team started working on Brotherhood.
“So we’ve known the end of Ezio’s story for some time – it’s just a matter of working out how we present that: do we do it in a game? In a comic book? In a handheld game? In a facebook game?”
Let’s hope it’s a game. Ezio is an important character and to have his story wrapped up in something other than one of the main entries in the series will upset many people. That said, we already know that Assassin’s Creed Embers will “expand on the final chapter of the life of master assassin Ezio Auditore and a journey that has spanned more than four decades”.
Surely this won’t cover the final chapter, though? We’ll find out when the short animated film launches alongside Assassin’s Creed: Revelations November 15.
