As spotted by Etheox on X, SteamDB notes that Armored Core 6 received a mysterious update on December 3. This is just one week before The Game Awards takes place on December 11, and naturally, it is fueling hopes for DLC among the fans who have been starved of major new content since the game released in August 2023.
The SteamDB update merely lists a changenumber, which is just simply a way of notifying “all Steam clients that something changed”. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the change is, and it could be anything. It’s best to assume it’s nothing, but appearing a week before The Game Awards is suspicious, as developer FromSoftware has a history at Geoff Keighley’s event with Armored Core 6 revealed at The Game Awards in 2022.
DLC over two years later seems unlikely, but there were FromSoftware job listings back in 2024 seeking a developer well-versed in “modelling and texturing characters of robots”. FromSoftware is famous for Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, but none of them feature robots besides Armored Core 6. FromSoftware’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, doesn’t star robots either.
Back in July this year, there were leaks from gaming publication, MP1st, claiming FromSoftware’s next unannounced game is so advanced that “we should be able to play it” in 2026, unless it’s hit by a delay. Reportedly codenamed “FMC” and multiplatform, MP1st doesn’t believe it’s a new Armored Core, but they do think it’s possibly a remaster or remake of Dark Souls.
Hopefully, Armored Core 6 DLC will be announced, but it seems unlikely. Still, The Game Awards should be a lot of fun with other potential reveals including the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake and whatever Geoff Keighley’s demon statue is teasing.
