Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet has re-opened the digital storefront for the recently released MMO after suspending virtual sales last week to cope with player demand on the servers.
The digital storefront was closed on August 30 as too many concurrent players would “compromise” the experience. “We’ve said before that we would be willing to temporarily disable first-party digital sales if we felt our high player concurrency may compromise player experiences,” said an ArenaNet statement at the time.
“Preserving the customer experience has always been our top priority,” said ArenaNet president Mike O’Brien in a press release. “We’re supporting Guild Wars 2 for the long run. We’ll always do what it takes to deliver the best online gaming experience for our customers, even when that means throttling sales.”
Overcrowded servers is still a problem in the fledgling MMO, though at least ArenaNet’s solution – an overflow system – ensures players aren’t stuck waiting at a nasty queue screen for hours on end.
