In an interview with Game File (as spotted by GamingBolt), Nexon CEO Junghun Lee said that the success of ARC Raiders has been “unprecedented,” and has drawn attention from other developers curious about the relationship between Nexon and developer Embark Studios.
Nexon is a major South Korean developer and publisher that completed its acquisition of Swedish developer Embark Studios in 2021. As of this writing, ARC Raiders has surpassed 15 million sales, making it arguably the biggest multiplayer success story in recent years, especially as most new live-service titles released in 2025 have lost over 90% of their player base.
Speaking about the game’s success, Lee said, “I didn’t expect ARC Raiders to be this successful,” adding that “it’s had around double the amount of success that I had initially anticipated”. As for why the game has resonated so strongly, Lee admitted that its success is “completely unprecedented,” noting that neither Nexon nor Embark can say “that the gameplay of ARC Raiders itself is totally new”.
As a result of the game’s performance, Lee claims that Nexon now has “a lot of different developers who are curious to know how Embark and Nexon work together”. He described this as “an exciting and amazing opportunity” for Nexon to potentially “work with more Western developers who are innovative” in the future.
The popularity of ARC Raiders is truly astonishing. Its 15 million sales are just 5 million shy of Helldivers 2’s 20 million lifetime sales, and this is despite ARC Raiders launching at the end of October 2025, while Helldivers 2 released in February 2024.
Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund has also revealed that ARC Raiders’ popularity has attracted movie and television adaptation offers from Hollywood, though nothing is currently in development.
To maintain the game’s momentum, Embark has ambitious plans for the year ahead. The Headwinds update 1.13.0 marked a strong start to the 2026 roadmap, introducing solo vs. squads if you are above level 40. There is also plenty more to look forward to, including a new map planned for April. Embark has additionally teased that it has a “good appetite” to eventually introduce a social space similar to the Tower in Destiny 2.
