OP Monstras-Patrick has shared his findings on the Arc Raiders subreddit that the PC community is a lot friendlier and more relaxed than the trigger-happy PS5 community. Because of this, the OP has sworn that they are “never playing the game on cross-play against console players ever again”.
The experiment was conducted by the OP on PC and his brother, who plays on PS5. They both disabled crossplay, and they agreed that when meeting another player, they would lower their weapons and “tell them we wouldn’t attack”. The OP and his brother would also explain that they are “looking for items to upgrade benches and suggest they relax, maybe even team up”.
Starting with PC, the OP managed “51 rounds, an average of 7 rounds a day”. Meeting a total of 172 players, 98 of them wished the OP luck, while seven lied and shot the OP in the back. A total of 47 shot on sight, meanwhile, 17 players agreed to team up and extract together. Only three players “faked a team-up and killed [the OP] at extract”.
Now, on the PS5, the experience was a lot worse for the brother. Across a “total of 84 rounds, an average of 12 rounds a day,” the brother met 237 players in total. Only 42 players wished the brother luck, while a whopping 58 lied and shot him in the back. The PS5 community is evidently less trustworthy, with 102 players shooting on sight, and only seven players agreeing to extract together. Here’s the real kicker: 28 players faked the team up, killing the brother at extract.
Arc Raiders players on PC are friendlier and more relaxed than on PS5.
Following their experiment, the OP believes that Arc Raiders PC players are “more relaxed, helpful, and friendlier than those on PS5”. While the PS5 community has “fewer friendly players, a lot less talking, and a whole lot more shooting on sight,” PC players engage in “more talking, more short team-up moments, and more sharing or trading of needed loot”.
According to Rhys Elliott of Aliena Insight, most Arc Raiders players are on PC. Embark’s extraction shooter has sold over four million copies to become Nexon’s biggest release, but when it was estimated at 2.5 million sales, Rhys Elliott discovered that 69.2% of players are on PC, with 17.3% on PS5, and 13.5% on Xbox.
You may want to disable crossplay on PC unless you play with a friend who is on consoles. You’re definitely not going to struggle finding other players exclusively on Steam as the Arc Raiders’ player count continues to break records, crushing both Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7.
Arc Raiders is one of the biggest surprises and triumphs of the year. Although not nominated for Game of the Year, it is competing for Best Multiplayer Game at Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards on December 11th. The Game of the Year snub is disappointing for some, but more infuriating is the snub for Best Audio Design.
