Embark have responded to Arc Raiders fans who have spotted a graphical downgrade in the Server Slam from Technical Test 2 back in April. On Reddit, a post shows a downgrade in lighting and shading, to which Embark’s community lead, OssenJ, responded, “We have done optimization to ensure higher and more stable framerates on low and mid spec hardware”.

The community lead’s response suggests that the visual downgrade was intentional to improve performance on lesser hardware. Naturally, a lot of replies disagreed with this explanation, with many comments echoing the sentiment that they want the graphics to return to how they were during Technical Test 2.

Unfortunately, we only got one additional response. A user commented, “Graphics are 100% worse, there’s no question,” to which OssenJ responded, “The team will look into this, thanks for letting us know”. Sadly, there’s no further elaboration on Reddit or the game’s Discord, and there’s no commitment to restoring the game’s previous graphical fidelity.

On the bright side, at least Embark have acknowledged the downgrade and are looking into it. The graphics are also still impressive, and, most importantly, the game is a lot of fun to play. We didn’t get to experience the full product during this playtest, but it was a more than decent taste of what’s to come with the full release.

Arc Raiders Server Slam Ends

The Arc Raiders Server Slam ended on October 19th and was the final playtest before the game fully releases on October 30th. The Server Slam was free for everyone to participate, and on Steam its all-time peak reached 189,668 players.

While the Server Slam was free, the full release isn’t. Arc Raiders was originally intended as free-to-play but that all changed with an announcement at Gamescom 2024. You can pre-order the game right now for some bonuses and Embark has even reduced the game’s price in some regions.

Unlike other multiplayer experiences, Embark has confirmed they have ditched mandatory wipes for Arc Raiders in favor of a player-driven reset system.
