The limited time Iron Crown Collection solo mode is live in Apex Legends, offering new Collection skins, a double XP weekend, and a makeover for Kings Canyon.

A solo mode for Apex Legends was ‘one of the most fan-requested features’ for Respawn’s battle royale, and players can dive straight in from now until August 27. Speedy superstar Octane has conquered a section of Kings Canyon and fashioned it in his own adrenaline-seeking style. It boasts a mega jump pad course, verticality galore, and a Ring of Fire for extra acrobatic eliminations. Octane’s Town Takeover will stay on even after the event ends. If players like the changes, Respawn will consider adding other themed Legend zones in the future.

From 6:00pm BST on August 16 until 6:00pm BST on August 19, players will earn double XP for top five finishes and wins, and this will count for level and battle pass advancement. Moreover, completing challenges during the Iron Crown Collection Event will unlock two event Packs, exclusive Iron Crown badges, and Crowns. Crowns are the new event currency that can be spent on event-specific Rare, Epic, and Legendary items in the store.

Swish new Collection skins have been released too. Wraith looks like Lagertha from Vikings, and Wattson gets a samurai-style set of armour. Gibraltar becomes a winged warrior, Lifeline dons a bone-white mask, and Mirage receives the excellently named ‘Captain Bamboozle’ skin. Iron Crown Collection Packs will guarantee a 50 per cent chance of attaining an Epic and Legendary event item respectively from each unboxing. Once all 24 cosmetic event items have been collected, the Bloodhound Heirloom Set will be unlocked for purchase with Apex Coins. Unspent Crowns fortunately won’t disappear, and will turn into Crafting Metals after the event finishes.

If all goes well, solo mode might be a permanent addition to Apex Legends, but for now Respawn will hold fire. Apex Legends is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Watch the Iron Crown Collection Event trailer below.
