K2 Network, the publisher of War Rock and 9 Dragons, has bought Realtime Worlds’ APB for a fee in the region of £1.5 million, Gamesindustry.biz reports.
According to the report, the cops and robbers MMO could be operational on K2’s gamersfirst network before the year end.
Given K2’s free-to-play background, it’s assumed APB will re-launch with a new free-to-play model. The game had previously utilised a combination of micro-transactions and paid-for time online.
After poor reviews and disappointing sales, Realtime Worlds fell into administration back in September and closed the APB game servers.
A free-to-play model won’t fix the problems which prevented APB from achieving higher review scores, but making it free will allow gamers to overlook some of its problems.
