Media Create reports that for the week ending November 24 Animal Crossing: City Folk (Let’s Go To The City in the UK) was the top selling video game with 305,000 units sold. The latest instalment in the hugely successful life-simulation series may be little more than an enhanced version of previous titles, but this hasn’t stopped Japanese Wii owners from borrowing shed-loads of Bells from Tom Nook.

It’s a Wii game at the top of the chart, but it’s the DS which dominates the Top 10, with six of the titles featured appearing the handheld gaming platform. The highest of these is Chrono Trigger DS from Square Enix, which is new at No.2 thanks to unit sales of 271,000. The new entries keep coming, with Gundam vs Gundam on PSP new at No.3 (267,000 units), The Last Remnant new at No.4 (101,000 units) and Saka DS: Touch and Go new at No.5 (72,000 units).

The Japanese Top 30 features 12 titles on Nintendo DS, five on Wii, four on PSP, four on PS3, three on PS2 and two on Xbox 360.
