Nintendo’s latest Wii U exclusives Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash have failed to crack the UK Video Games Top 40 Chart, instead debuting at No.4 and No.7 in the Wii U single formats chart respectively.
Amiibo Festival’s position means that it sold fewer copies during its opening week than Mario Kart 8, Splatoon and Super Mario Maker managed months after launch, with Mario Tennis: Ultra Tennis also lagging behind sales of Yoshi’s Woolly World and LEGO Dimensions.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, which launched on 3DS early last month, sold more copies last week than Amiibo Festival as well.
The top 10 single-format Wii U Chart looks like this:
1. MARIO KART 8
2. SPLATOON
3. SUPER MARIO MAKER
4. ANIMAL CROSSING: AMIIBO FESTIVAL
5. YOSHI’S WOOLLY WORLD
6. LEGO DIMENSIONS
7. MARIO TENNIS: ULTRA SMASH
8. SKYLANDERS SUPERCHARGERS
9. MARIO PARTY 10
10. JUST DANCE 2016
Neither Amiibo Festival or Ultra Smash proved to be a hit with critics last week, either, with Mario Tennis: achieving a Metacritic rating of just 60.
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, meanwhile, turned out to be one of the lowest-scoring Nintendo titles in recent memory, earning a Metacritic rating of 40 – even lower than the critically-panned Devil’s Third.
Sales figures have not been revealed for either game.
