Update: Angry Birds 2 has a teaser trailer which is literally a bunch of pigs on Piggy Island being spied on by who we assume to be the Angry Birds.

The video description writes: “On Piggy Island, every day is beach party day. But sooner or later, all parties get crashed…”

The blurb also confirms an Apple App Store and Google Play release on July 30, with no mention of a Windows version.

Update: Angry Birds 2 will release on July 30, Rovio has announced. The game will will be available on app stores worldwide. No specific platforms have been announced, but we’re assuming iOS and Android versions are a given.

Original story: Angry Birds 2, the true sequel to 2009’s monster hit, is finally happening, a press invite sent out by Rovio has revealed.

The invitation features an image of the angry birds, the game’s title and the tagline “Bigger. Badder. Birdier.”

Although the original Angry Birds game has been downloaded over 2 billion times, Rovio resisted releasing a numbered sequel, instead opting for a host of spin-off titles including Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Go!.

Rovio will host a press event in San Francisco on July 28 to unveil the new game.
