Andy Serkis’ game studio announces Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier for late 2017

Imaginati Studios has announced that its debut title Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier will be released in late 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Last Frontier is a standalone narrative adventure game set in the Planet of the Apes cinematic universe, and features multiple endings, branching conversation arcs and diverging paths dependent on the choices of the player. Think of a game with the gameplay styles of Until Dawn or Telltale Games, but with angry primates, and you’re on the right track.

Last Frontier is set between two films, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, with players being given the chance to play as both humans and apes amidst the backdrop of a growing conflict between the two species. This gameplay mechanic is intended to provide a deeper understanding of the motivations, hopes and fears that affect both humans and apes during the course of the game.

Imaginati Studios is a sub-division of Imaginarium Studios, created in partnership with FoxNext Games for the purpose of applying the motion-capture technology from Imaginarium Studios with the gaming experience of FoxNext Games.

Imaginarium Studios founder, Andy Serkis, has said in a statement that, ‘We are committed to exploring and expanding next-generation storytelling, and Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier represents an exciting marriage of technology and creativity, all set in a rich universe of which I am very proud’.

Imaginarium Studios was founded in 2011, and it’s known for its expertise in performance capture and story-telling with its work being used in the Planet of the Apes movies. It’s also provided performance capture for Avengers: Rise of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. It’s also worked on the video games, Battlefield 1, Star Citizen and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is due to come out before the end of 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
