Anarchy Reigns has been delayed until 2013 in Europe and North America, SEGA has announced.
The game will still launch in Japan on July 5, 2012, as originally intended.
“The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated,” SEGA said on Twitter.
“We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013.”
Anarchy Reigns is the latest game from Bayonetta developer Platinum Games. The game is described as an ‘action-combat game’ with an emphasis on online multiplayer.
The game’s executive producer Atsushi Inaba added that today’s news “was the first we’d heard of [a 2013 release]. Even if we wanted to, we can’t comment as we’re (still) in the dark officially.
“First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns,” he continued. “The delay is not due to further development on the game. Also, even though the release dates will be different, the content of both the Japanese and Western versions will be 100% the same.
“Finally, I want to sincerely apologise to all the fans worldwide for all the confusion this situation has caused. Even though we are the game’s developers, we can only do so much about this…
“However, we hope you can continue to support Anarchy Reigns and look forward to playing it with us in the future. Thank you.”
It was first revealed that Anarchy Reigns would not hit its July western launch date last month, when the game’s release date was quietly changed to “To Be Confirmed”.
At the time, a Platinum rep said that the team had “worked really hard to make sure everybody could get the game on time.
“We really wanted everybody online around the world to be able to play together at the same time, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen.”
