American McGee is Kickstarting a new project, having stepped away from the popular Alice series of games, for now. His new project, called Out of the Woods, will be a collection of fairy tales with a dark twist adapted into a card game. The American McGee tone remains compellingly consistent throughout.

Taking a typically creepy McGee approach to fairy tales, the tabletop card game has a simple ruleset, with the end goal of getting Out of the Woods. The last player holding cards is trapped in the woods and devoured by wolves.

The kickstarter for the card game comes with a bevy of items for project backers at various tiers. The first tier comes with the card game deck, with the other tiers granting items such as an illustrated book, a colouring book and a collection of art. If that’s your kind of thing, you know what you need to do.

It all looks pretty, gruesome and quite fun. If it takes your fancy, go and check it out. At the time of writing it has 30 days to go to hit its target, and has been funded to the tune of over $50k.Meanwhile, American McGee is very keen that you stop asking him about the Alice games. Seriously. He will block you.
