In an analyst meeting last week AMD revealed that by 2007 they expect to have four or more cores running on one chip. “We will be able to scale to 16 cores,” said VP Martin Seyer.

Dual core processors are yet to make a difference to PC gamers, primarily down to the lack of developer support, but this is sure to change with both AMD and Intel now shifting towards to the multi cored solutions. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have multi core technology at their heart.

Seyer also commented on the company’s focus on mobile computing. “We are investing quite heavily in our CPUs and our roadmaps and our platforms for mobile,” he said, referring to the Turion 64 bit mobile CPU. AMD plan to have a 4 hour battery life in notebooks this year with six or more hours by 2007.
