Backwards compatibility on consoles is a feature everyone says they want, but never actually uses, right? Wrong, says Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

“Now over 300 back compat titles,” Tweeted Spencer tweeted. “Nearly 50% of XB1 owners playing BC games is great to see. Thanks for supporting the program.”

Exactly what qualifies as “playing” isn’t known, and could simply be a user having a quick five minute look at a back compat title, never to return to the functionality again.

Still, it does at least give some legitimacy to Xbox One touting the feature, something PS4 isn’t able to offer – besides the so-so PlayStation Now streaming service and the occasional HD PS2 title.

The news comes as the Xbox One Backwards Compatible games catalogue reached more than 300 titles, thanks to the release of BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite – though all three are better played via the remastered collection.
