If you’ve got a Vita then you’ve probably also got a PlayStation 3, says Sony.

While the company isn’t sharing actual things like numbers or facts, Sony Computer Entertainment America marketing VP John Koller told Endgadget that “you look at the Vita consumer and a very high percentage – almost all of them – own a PS3”.

“So you see that crossover works,” Koller adds.

Sony has spent much of 2012 trumpeting its cross-compatibility features between the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, with the concept of asynchronous gaming being one of the core conceits behind Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U.

Koller is all about the comparison with Nintendo’s device, and (unsurprisingly) believes Sony comes out on top.

“We tell our PlayStation fans all the time that what the Wii U is offering is something that Vita and PS3 can do quite easily.”

But it’s more about content than functionality, says Koller.

“It’s dependent on the content. So we need to make sure the content isn’t force fed,” he continues. “And, to us, making sure that the gamer receives the right type of experience is what’s most important. So we’re gonna pick our spots, but that technology does certainly exist here.”

Sony’s most prominent use of Vita/PS3 compatibility comes from the upcoming LittleBigPlanet Cross Controller DLC, which will bring a sack full of news levels that make use of the Vita’s touch screen.

In a separate interview, Koller said that Sony would continue to support PlayStation 3 for at least another few years, adding that the console had an “incredible lineup” still to come.
