We got a fresh look at Alan Wake 2 during the Summer Game Fest, including a first true look at gameplay as new character, FBI agent Saga Anderson.
This sequel will in fact open with you playing as Saga, as she finds herself caught up in some seriously sinister goings on in the town of Bright Falls. Of course, these happenings seem to be directly related to the horror stories that Alan Wake is writing, which he may or may not be bringing to life. Saga sounds like she’ll be similar to a Dana Scully character, who starts off something of a sceptic to the supernatural goings on that Alan is of course by now, very privvy to.
Sam Lake was on stage to talk about the two characters, letting us know players will be able to switch between the two as much or as little as you want. In fact, what you see of the story will change depending on how much you play of one or the other – but crucially, there isn’t one ‘right’ way to play the game – so you can play as much as Alan or as Saga as you want to.
Alan Wake 2 is currently set to arrive on October 17, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. No physical version is currently planned – but that could change if THQ Nordic have anything to do with it.
