Users can now begin to make the transition to free-to-play in MMO Aion.

The official Aion free-to-play website now lets players pre-load the new client, sign up for the beta, and read about what they’ll need to do to easily move their account to Gameforge’s new servers.

The MMO’s European servers will be making the switch to this business model in February, however the game remains subscription-based in North America.

While the Korean game launched under a traditional subscription model in 2009, it will be making the move to F2P as part of a partnership between NCsoft and Gameforge.

The team has stated the change is part of an attempt to gain a larger population of players on servers, as it has become increasingly more deserted.
