A Disney subsidiary, cunningly called Disney Online, has revealed that it is working on an MMORPG based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Having already had some success with its Toontown Online MMO, a game squarely aimed families and children, Disney clearly feels there’s more to be done in this niche market:

“We’ve learned through our experience with Toontown that the market for massively multiplayer online role-playing games can indeed reach beyond traditional gamers,” claims, EVP and managing director for Disney Online, Ken Goldstein. “Pirates of the Caribbean is the perfect franchise for our second commercial effort in this arena.”
