Forgotten Empires has aimed a swift kick right in the goolies with this news. It’s announced that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition on PC has been delayed from its planned October 19 release. Fans of the series will have to remain patient for a little while longer, as the real-time strategy’s launch has been bumped into early 2018.

In a recent blog post, the developer has given some reasons for the delay, and it began by saying that AoE is ‘a classic and it deserves to be treated with careful reverence.’ It continued, stating that RTS games have evolved quite a bit since the original release of AoE, and ‘the challenge is to recreate the experience not as it *actually* was but as we all remember it.’ The developer is focused on modernising the game, ‘while preserving the fun, discovery and magic of that first experience. Fair dos.

‘We don’t have a final release date to share quite yet, but are targeting early 2018,’ said the developer. Forgotten Empires also stated that even though the Windows Store page has listed the game’s release date for 31/12/2018, ‘this is a placeholder, and does not reflect our target release date’.
