Funcom is overhauling the crafting system for MMO Age of Conan and ridding the MMO of its previous system.

In the latest developer update, the studio confirmed it was not worth continuing with the old crafting system once available in the MMO.

“This is a totally new system. When we sat down and looked at the system and how we could add depth and improve engagement, it became clear that it was better to start over.

“So rather than try and shoe-horn what we had into something a little more useable, we decided to bite the proverbial bullet and start over.”

The biggest change is the axing of crafting quests. Now users will progress in crafting and gathering by making items and using the relevant skills.

“There will be no more make or fetch quests required to level-up your skills; instead, you will progress through the levels as you use the skill.”

Random attacks while gathering have also been binned, while gathering locations will be changed to include more variety and still include random bonuses.

Finally, the quality of crafting materials will now affect the quality of the crafted product, and while the process will take time to complete, higher level characters will be able to queue up items.

Since going free-to-play last year the MMO has seen an increase of 600 thousand users.
