Speaking to CVG, Age of Conan product manager Erling Ellingsen has revealed that there is a possibility the upcoming MMO will feature cross-platform play.
Ellingsen said that the developer is “toying around with many different solutions” that would enable cross -platform gaming between PC and Xbox 360s.
“…one is having some shared servers and some servers that are not shared – simply to give players the freedom of choice. What solution we actually do end up with is something we will have to reveal later,” Ellingsen said.
Getting the two versions of the game working together isn’t as simple as using the same servers though, Ellingsen noting that there are numerous hurdles that will need to be overcome.
“There are several issues with mixing people on the same server. Will they be able to communicate well enough with each other? Will the console users be less responsive than the PC users? There are many issues that must be addressed,” Ellingsen said.
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is scheduled for release for PC and Xbox 360 later this year.
