Everyone loves to find treasure, but few enjoy digging for it. If you’re a Baldur’s Gate 3 player tired of manually digging holes to find some secret loot, a new mod allows you to use everyone’s favourite good boy Scratch as your personal treasure hunter.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Scratch mod

Created by modder Almasy87, the new mod “Best Boy Can Dig” turns the game’s adorable dog Scratch into a summonable spell to dig up treasures for you.

Instead of having to hunt for shovels, this mod now lets you call Scratch away from the camp to dig up mounds of dirt for you. With a little dog digging animation, Scratch will quickly bring you a little treat directly out of the ground.

It’s such a simple mechanic, but one that makes a tonne of sense for players who bring Scratch into their group. It’s so simple that it feels like it would be a part of Baldur’s Gate 3 that Larian simply didn’t get around to implementing.

However, the mod isn’t without issue. Whenever Scratch does dig through the ground, a shovel will appear underneath the pup as he digs. However, the shovel immediately disappears once he finishes his job.

Allowing Scratch to be used in more ways within the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fantastic little addition to the RPG’s sandbox. As a game that allows almost every element to play with each other in a living, breathing way, giving Scratch more uses is instantly satisfying for players of Larian’s award-winning game.

While it may not be anywhere near as extensive as cut content mods or as wild as functional Pokeballs, it’s a brilliantly functional addition to the game.
