According to Activision, the acquisition will provide them “with an early leadership position in music-based gaming, which the company expects will be one of the fastest growing genres in the coming years.”

RedOctane becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision, with the company’s management and key employees signing long-term contracts with their new employer. The transaction should be finalised during the current fiscal quarter, and financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. How this will affect future iterations of the Guitar Hero series, and the platforms it appears on remains to be seen.
