Video game publishing giant Activision has announced that CEO Eric Hirshberg is parting ways with the company this year. Hirshberg has been with the Call of Duty publisher for nearly a decade, and has seen the firm through a number of major software releases, including multiple Call of Duty titles and two Destiny games.

According to a report by GamesBeat, Hirshberg informed his co-workers of his decision just recently, and will remain with the industry heavyweight until the end of March when his current contract expires. Activision is reportedly already busy looking for a replacement.

During his time at the company Hirshberg reported to Activision Blizzard Big Cheese, Bobby Kotick, and notched up some impressive feats such as the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which drummed up more than $1 billion sales in just 15 days. A former advertising executive, Hirshberg brought something fresh to the publisher as he wasn’t part of the games industry prior to joining the company.

Kotick labelled the departing Hirshberg ‘an inspiring leader’ that has lead Activision through some ‘historic performances and great successes,’ before extending his ‘full support and appreciation.’

‘Serving as Activision’s CEO has been an honor and a thrill,’ commented Hirshberg. ‘This is an amazing company. One which routinely delivers epic experiences for our fans on a scale that no one else can.’

It isn’t yet known where Hirshberg will go following his departure from Activision, but we wish him all the best.
