Activision has announced Wappy Dog, a toy dog that interacts with players through the Nintendo DS.
The player’s interaction with the pet will determine how its personality and skills evolve as you play. Additionally players can communicate with the dog using Nintendo DS-based commands that it will respond to by barking, wagging his tail, singing, and dancing.
Wappy Dog will include mini-games, as well as “Home Mode” which allows players to engage with the robot dog through the Nintendo DS, and “Travel Mode” which lets you continue caring for it virtually without the toy.
Wappy Dog will be available this holiday season on Nintendo DS.
Sony binned its robo-dog Aibo as part of its cost-cutting effort a few years ago, so for those of you still reeling from the loss this seems to be a scaled down, economical dogbot alternative.
