Wired Productions and LKA.it have announced that 25% of sales of The Town of Light will go towards funding and supporting mental health charities such as Take This, Inc. This promotion covers the sales of digital copies between August 16 and September 6, and marks the first activity in a year long campaign to raise awareness and bring attention to the importance of mental health.

The proceeds from this campaign will help to fund vital services offered by Take This, Inc. This includes providing mental health education, referral resources, and the popular AFK Rooms, staffed mental wellness spaces which are available at some of the world’s prominent games events.

Wired Productions managing director Leo Zullo said that it chose The Town of Light ‘because of the themes of mental health within the game and its grounding in reality’. Luca Dalcò, Studio Head at LKA.it, said, ‘The struggles surrounding mental health affect so many of our lives day to day; to shine a light on mental illness and tell the story of those who suffered without a voice in the past was our goal.’

The Town of Light is played through the eyes of a girl called Renée, a 16 year old girl suffering with mental health issues. Playing as Renée, players will search for answers to questions from her past. What follows is intended to be a dark and emotional journey where the line between interactive entertainment, trauma and reality begin to blur.

Russ Pitts, President of Take This, Inc. said, ‘The biggest challenge people dealing with mental health issues face is isolation and loneliness. The feeling no one will understand or can help. And a lot of people turn to video games for an escape’.The Town of Light was based on the theme of mental health, with extensive research and real life testimonies feeding directly into the creation of the game.

The Town of Light was initially released on PC in February 2016. The console release followed on June 6, 2017 on the PS4 and Xbox One.
