Respawn has already revealed that Titanfall 3 is not in development, but that doesn't mean the franchise is down and out. Studio head honcho Vince Zampella has since confirmed that a new Titanfall game is in the works, and that it'll launch this year.

Zampella dropped the news on Twitter, although he didn't reveal any information on the game. His use of the word 'experiment' suggests it may not be your average Titanfall experience, though.

EA's Andrew Wilson later added a few more hints about the project: 'The Respawn team has a strong plan for Apex Legends that will engage fans for a long time to come, he said.

'As the live service evolves, Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe. More to come on that in the months ahead.'

Respawn launched its spin-off title Apex Legends earlier this week on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. It's a free-to-play battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe, although it eschews some of the signature moves from the series.
